If you’re dreaming of a small wedding in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, Crested Butte is pure magic. Picture this: wildflower-filled meadows, towering peaks, and a love story that feels straight out of a movie. That’s exactly what Natalie and Tannler experienced on the summer solstice—just them, their parents, and the breathtaking landscapes of Snodgrass Mountain and Mt. Crested Butte.

As a Crested Butte wedding photographer and videographer, I live for these moments—where love meets adventure, and every frame tells a story. Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement or a micro wedding, I’ve got all the tips, travel advice, and inspiration you need for a stress-free, unforgettable stay in Crested Butte.

YOUR LOVE; AUTHENTIC & BOLD

A Dreamy Wildflower Wedding in Crested Butte

Natalie and Tannler’s wedding was the kind of day you don’t forget. With early wildflowers already showing off their colors, we hiked to a stunning trail, where rivers, meadows, and panoramic mountain views created the perfect backdrop. Their small ceremony, with only their parents present, was heartfelt and intimate—proof that you don’t need a big crowd for a wedding to feel perfectly right.

After soaking in the morning light before the approaching storms and capturing every joyful, tear-filled ceremony moment, we ventured around CB before the storms won for the day. We weren’t too worried because we had an Adventure Session planned at Sand Dunes National Park a few days later, and then they celebrated with a bigger crew at their reception back home a few months later. It was the best of both worlds: a private mountain elopement, a desert adventure, and a big celebration with loved ones.

And guess what? You can have that too!

All the hiking, biking, fishing and Jeeping make it an outdoor lover’s paradise.

The Best Time to Get Married in Crested Butte

The seasons in CB are stunning but unpredictable, and plans change! We had initially planned on a couple of higher elevation locations for N & T’s June wedding, but the passes and higher trails still had a bunch of snow, even in late June! While the lower elevations, we’re already popping with vibrant greens and wildflowers.

⇣ This is the same day, just a few miles away and a couple of 1,000 feet in elevation change!! ⇣

Here’s what you need to know:

Spring (April – June)

Snow lingers in early spring, but the wildflowers start popping at lower elevations by June. There’s usually still snow at the passes. Pro tip: Late June is the best for couples wanting quiet seclusion. Once wildflower season starts, it’s crazy busy up here!

Summer (July – August)

Peak wildflower season! Think lupines, columbines, and sunflowers completely covering the hills. Days are warm, but afternoon showers are common—so have a rain plan! Pro tip: Planning around the sunrise or sunset is the best way to skip the drama of afternoon thunderstorms.

Fall (September – October)

The aspens turn gold, and it’s insanely beautiful. Slightly fewer tourists, crisp air, and perfect elopement vibes.

Winter (November – March)

A snow-covered wonderland. If you’re dreaming of a ski-in wedding or a cozy cabin elopement, this is your time! Pro tip: Make sure to plan additional days on each end of the trip for road closures or flight delays. It’s Winter, in Colorado, you’ll need to plan accordingly.

Weather Tip: Always pack layers! CB’s weather can shift from sunny and 70°F to cold and icy within minutes.

“We hired LAB Photography+Films for our wedding elopement & reception in Aspen, Colorado, at the Maroon Bells. We chose the option for both pictures & highlight film. We are beyond happy with the results. They did such a great job capturing every moment with family, friends, and our two dogs. It rained at the Maroon Bells, but Leah & her assistant were ready to go with their rain protection on their equipment. The pictures turned out amazing, but the highlight film was the reason we hired LAB Photography & Films. I feel like I can relive my wedding day over & over, and it is the most perfect memory. Thank you!!” ~ Veronica & Tanner
